Katherine Wilson, executive director of the Zeidler Center for Public Discussion, talks about her start in a small Wisconsin town, the dangers of polarization and the importance of humanizing others, or “starting off with stories and values.”
“I’ve seen people of incredibly diverse and divergent opinions on polarizing issues, once they hear each other’s stories, they say, ‘Yeah, you know, had I had that experience, I probably would have come to the same conclusion,’” says Wilson. “And, then, you get a spark of empathy.”
